Unlooted 12th-Dynasty 'Mistress of the Royal Wardrobe' Tomb Discovered in Saqqara with Rare Pleated Linen

Archaeologists at the Saqqara Necropolis have unearthed a pristine, unlooted tomb belonging to a high-ranking woman named Lady Nefer-Ptah, who held the title "Mistress of the Royal Wardrobe" during the 12th Dynasty of Egypt. The find is significant for its extraordinary collection of Middle Kingdom textiles, which remain vibrant despite being over 3,800 years old.

Inside the limestone chamber, the team discovered several cedar wood chests containing finely pleated linen garments, beaded collars, and a unique silver-gilt mirror. The walls are adorned with vivid hieroglyphic inscriptions and scenes depicting the production of linen and the preparation of royal attire, offering a rare glimpse into the specialized industries that supported the pharaonic court. This discovery is expected to provide new insights into the administrative hierarchy of the Middle Kingdom.
