In a groundbreaking discovery at the ancient site of Cumae, Italy, a team from the Archaeological Superintendency has uncovered a 1st-century Roman temple dedicated to the Parcae (the Fates). The sanctuary is remarkable for its survival of a ritual chamber containing three intact marble spindles and bronze shears, symbolizing the thread of life managed by Nona, Decima, and Morta.
The temple floor is adorned with a complex mosaic depicting the cosmic wheel of destiny, a rare motif in Roman sacred architecture. Scholars believe this site served as a major center for oracular consultation. The limestone masonry remains exceptionally well-preserved, showing evidence of early Imperial-era restoration following local seismic activity.
