New excavations at the Mature Harappan site of Rakhigarhi have revealed a unique structure identified as a training center for ancient civil engineers and architects. The discovery includes a central courtyard surrounded by specialized cells where researchers found dozens of terracotta tablets etched with precise geometric grids and architectural blueprints for multi-story residential blocks and public drainage systems.
This finding provides the first direct physical evidence of how the Indus Valley's famous grid-based urban planning was standardized, taught, and disseminated across its vast territory. Along with the technical drawings, archaeologists recovered a cache of standardized bronze measuring rods and stone plumb bobs used to ensure the perfect verticality and alignment of the city's complex brickwork.
