Ancient Bhonsle-Era Stone Water Vessel Unearthed During Excavation at Ramtek Fort Temple Premises

During ongoing construction at the Ramtek Fort Temple (Ram Mandir) in Maharashtra, labourers discovered a historical stone vessel dating back to the Bhonsle period. The object, initially suspected to be a treasure-laden pot, was identified by the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums as a medieval Jalpaatra (water container). It was found near the Varaha Mandir area, where new steps are being built to improve access to the hilltop sacred site.

Archaeologists confirmed that such vessels were characteristic of the Bhonsle era's military and civil infrastructure, used to provide water to soldiers and pilgrims visiting the fort. The artifact will be preserved for further study to determine its exact age and mineral composition. This discovery offers a glimpse into the 18th-century logistics and ritual management of one of the region's most prominent pilgrimage destinations.
