Conservationists in Ladakh have successfully deployed a revolutionary bio-nanotechnology infusion to stabilize the crumbling 12th-century murals of the Alchi Monastery. The treatment uses a 'smart' mineral-producing bacteria that fills microscopic fissures in the plaster, preventing further exfoliation caused by extreme temperature fluctuations.
This innovative approach is the first of its kind to be used in a high-altitude Himalayan environment. Unlike traditional synthetic resins, the bio-infusion is fully breathable and chemically compatible with the original earthen pigments, ensuring the long-term preservation of some of the world's most significant Indo-Tibetan artworks.
