The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has completed a three-month excavation at Mound 4 of the Rakhigarhi site, revealing the foundations of a monumental grain storage facility. Measuring nearly 60 meters in length, the structure features a raised mud-brick platform with ventilation channels designed to keep stored crops dry. This find confirms Rakhigarhi’s role as a central node in the Harappan agricultural distribution network.
Alongside the granary, researchers discovered several steatite seals with unique "Unicorn" motifs and a large quantity of carbonized barley and wheat. The presence of specialized weighing stones at the entrance suggests a highly regulated taxation and redistribution system was in place, providing new evidence for the complex economic integration of the Indus Valley Civilization.
