Pristine 3rd-Dynasty 'Royal Architect's' Residence Uncovered at Saqqara Necropolis with Intact Measuring Tools

Archaeologists at the Saqqara Necropolis have excavated the well-preserved residence of a high-ranking 3rd-Dynasty royal architect. The site, located near the Step Pyramid of Djoser, includes a dedicated office space containing intact copper set-squares, plumb bobs, and a rare limestone drafting tablet with etched architectural plans.

The residence provides a rare look into the daily lives of the elite craftsmen responsible for the birth of pyramid construction. Wall inscriptions identify the owner as 'Kha-bau-Seker,' a title-holder associated with the Royal Works. The discovery of 4,600-year-old papyrus fragments detailing labor rosters and stone quotas offers unprecedented data on the logistics of early Pharaonic engineering.
