Archaeologists in Ancient Larsa Uncover a 3,800-Year-Old 'Old Babylonian Royal Armory' with Intact Bronze Spearheads

A team of researchers excavating the ancient Mesopotamian city of Larsa has discovered a fortified structure identified as an Old Babylonian Royal Armory. The building contains three large storage halls where hundreds of bronze spearheads and arrowheads were found neatly arranged in specialized racks. The weapons exhibit a standardized design, suggesting a high level of state-controlled military manufacturing under the reign of Rim-Sin I.

In addition to the physical weaponry, the team found several cuneiform inventory tablets that detail the distribution of arms to various frontier garrisons. These records provide a rare glimpse into the logistical organization and defensive strategies of the Larsa kingdom during its final decades of independence before the rise of Hammurabi of Babylon. The site is considered a "military time capsule" due to its rapid abandonment and subsequent preservation.
