During structural repairs of a medieval Jain temple in the Pali district of Rajasthan, workers discovered a hidden masonry wall containing a perfectly preserved Sahasra-Kuta pillar. This monolithic structure features over a thousand miniature carvings of Tirthankaras, representing a masterpiece of 11th-century Maru-Gurjara craftsmanship.
Experts believe the pillar was walled up during the 14th century to protect it from potential raids. The white marble monolith shows zero signs of weathering and provides an unprecedented look at the detailed iconographic standards of the Chauhan era.
