Intact 18th-Dynasty 'Director of the Royal Glass-Core Workshops' Tomb Uncovered in Saqqara with Rare Multi-Colored Vessels

A joint Egyptian-German mission in the Saqqara Necropolis has unveiled the pristine tomb of a high-ranking official named Amenhotep-Ba, who served as the 'Director of the Royal Glass-Core Workshops' during the 18th Dynasty. The burial chamber contains exceptionally well-preserved reliefs depicting the various stages of ancient glassmaking, from raw material gathering to the molding of intricate core-formed vessels.

Among the funerary offerings are several rare, multi-colored glass vases with feathered and zigzag patterns, which were highly prized luxury items in the New Kingdom. Scholars believe this discovery will significantly enhance our understanding of the chemical recipes and social hierarchy of specialized artisans in pharaonic Egypt.
