Significant 15th-Century 'Inca' Sun Temple Featuring Intact Gold-Lined Solar Siphons Discovered in Highland Ecuador

A groundbreaking discovery in the remote highlands of Ecuador has revealed a massive 15th-century Inca temple dedicated to the sun god, Inti. Unlike standard Inca structures, this complex features a series of gold-lined stone siphons designed to channel water in a way that reflects the midday sun into the primary ritual chamber. This sophisticated hydraulic and optical engineering highlights the advanced astronomical knowledge of the late Inca Empire.

Excavations have unearthed several ritual offerings, including silver figurines and spondylus shells, indicating the site’s high status within the imperial hierarchy. The temple’s strategic location on a high ridge suggests it also served as a celestial observatory, used to calibrate the agricultural calendar for the surrounding northern territories. Archaeologists are currently using LiDAR to map additional subterranean structures connected to the main plaza.
