A research project at the Institute of Paleography and AI has successfully reconstructed hidden text from 7th-century Late-Brahmi palimpsests recovered from the Tarim Basin. The deciphered fragments contain a previously unknown Sanskrit treatise titled Vata-Gati-Vijnana, which outlines theoretical models of aerodynamic turbulence and air-current behaviors.
The manuscript details the systematic observation of avian soaring and wing-tip vortices, applying these observations to the design of ancient meteorological flags and wind-vanes. Scholars suggest this research represents a lost tradition of Indian fluid mechanics, showcasing a rigorous empirical approach to understanding vayu (air) as a physical medium subject to predictable mathematical laws.
