UNESCO Inscribes 'The Ancient Stone-Walled Agricultural Landscapes of the Peloponnese' to World Heritage List

UNESCO has officially added the Ancient Stone-Walled Agricultural Landscapes of the Peloponnese to its World Heritage List. These vast networks of dry-stone terraces and irrigation channels date back to the Mycenaean era and represent one of the oldest continuous systems of Mediterranean viticulture and olive cultivation.

The designation highlights the resilience of traditional Greek farming techniques in the face of modern industrialization. UNESCO officials praised the site for its bio-cultural value, noting that the ancient terraces prevent soil erosion and support unique endemic flora that has survived for millennia within the stone crevices.
