Archaeologists Uncover 4th-Century BCE 'Temple of Artemis' with Intact Marble Statuary at Ancient Pydna, Greece

Excavations at the ancient city of Pydna in northern Greece have led to the stunning discovery of a temple dedicated to Artemis. Dating to the late 4th century BCE, the sanctuary remains largely intact, including its marble floor and the lower portions of its Ionic columns. The most significant find is a life-sized marble statue of the goddess, found lying face-down near the cella wall.

The temple complex also includes a small treasury building and an outdoor altar where terracotta figurines and silver coins were recovered. Experts believe the temple was a major religious center for the Macedonian kingdom before the Roman conquest. This discovery is considered one of the most important finds in the region in the last decade.
