Archaeologists working in the foothills of Mount Helicon have discovered a 4th-century BCE temple dedicated to the Muses. The site, which includes a rare circular tholos structure, has yielded several intact marble lyres and fragmented inscriptions containing portions of ancient Greek musical notation.
The find is of immense historical value as it represents one of the few confirmed archaeological sites directly linked to the Cult of the Muses in their traditional mythological home. Researchers believe the temple was a center for both religious worship and the study of the arts, serving as a precursor to the great libraries and academies of the Hellenistic world.
