Stuttgart State Museum Finalizes Repatriation of Rare 10th-Century 'Kushan' Dynasty Gold Ornaments to Pakistan

Following a three-year provenance study, the Stuttgart State Museum has formally returned a collection of 10th-century gold ornaments to the government of Pakistan. The artifacts, which include intricately engraved earrings and a ceremonial necklace, were identified as having been illegally exported from the Gandhara region during the 1960s. This repatriation marks a significant step in the strengthening of cultural ties between Germany and Pakistan.

During the handover ceremony, museum curators emphasized the importance of returning items that hold deep spiritual and historical value to their regions of origin. The artifacts are scheduled to be displayed at the Taxila Museum later this year, where they will rejoin other significant pieces from the Kushan period in a newly renovated heritage wing.
