Sunken 15th-Century 'Malacca Sultanate' Royal Galley Identified off the Coast of Malaysia with Gilded Bronze Weaponry

Marine archaeologists using high-resolution sonar have located the remains of a royal war-galley belonging to the Malacca Sultanate in the deep waters of the Malacca Strait. The wreck, remarkably well-preserved in anoxic mud, contains a significant cache of gilded bronze lantaka (swivel guns) and ceremonial kris daggers inlaid with semi-precious stones. The vessel's architecture reveals a unique hybrid of local Austronesian shipbuilding techniques and Ming Dynasty influence, indicating a period of high naval technological exchange.

Preliminary dives have recovered silk fragments and spice residues, suggesting the ship was part of a diplomatic mission when it foundered. The discovery is being hailed as a 'time capsule' of Southeast Asian naval power, providing the first tangible evidence of the sultanate's legendary maritime strength before the Portuguese conquest in 1511.
