11th-Century 'Prameya-Viveka-Kalpataru' Manuscript Found in a Private Jodhpur Archive Reshapes Theories of 'Epistemic Trust'

A previously unknown philosophical treatise, the Prameya-Viveka-Kalpataru, has been recovered from a private family archive in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Dating back to the 11th century, the manuscript delves into the 'Philosophy of Epistemic Trust' (Pramana-Vishvasa), exploring how knowledge is validated through the integrity of the witness and the purity of the medium through which truth is transmitted.

Scholars believe the text was written by a disciple of the Nyaya school and offers a unique critique of radical skepticism. It suggests that while doubt is a tool for inquiry, the foundation of a functional society rests upon a cultivated 'Rational Faith' in the shared structures of logic and human testimony. The manuscript is currently undergoing preservation at the Mehrangarh Museum Trust.
