The Fiji Museum in Suva is entering the final stages of a major gallery renovation aimed at transforming the institution into a high-tech hub for Pacific heritage preservation. Assistant Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Ratu Isikeli Tuiwailevu, highlighted that the project includes a specialized, climate-controlled storage area designed to house and protect over 10,000 historical items. This modernization effort is intended to improve both the physical safety of the collections and their accessibility for international researchers.
As part of Fiji's broader 'Cultural Renaissance,' the renovation integrates digital discovery tools with traditional storytelling. The new facilities will support the museum’s role as a regional leader in safeguarding iTaukei knowledge and history. The project is seen as a vital step in ensuring that the nation's artifacts are preserved against the environmental challenges of the Pacific while fostering a deeper connection for future generations to their ancestral roots.
