On World Cultural Heritage Day, the Ministry of Information and Culture announced the successful completion of restoration projects targeting 23 historical buildings and sacred sites across the country. According to ministry spokesperson Habib Ghafoor, the efforts were concentrated in the provinces of Kandahar, Bamiyan, Laghman, Paktika, and Helmand, focusing on structural reinforcement and the preservation of ancient religious architecture that had suffered from years of environmental decay and instability.
While the ministry did not disclose the specific costs, officials emphasized that the projects included the stabilization of ancient citadel walls and the repair of several pre-Islamic and early Islamic shrine foundations. This initiative is part of a strategic plan to revitalize the nation's cultural landmarks, highlighting Afghanistan's millennia-old history as a crossroads of civilizations. The ministry has called upon local residents to cooperate in the long-term protection of these newly restored monuments to ensure their survival for future research.
