In a landmark victory for cultural heritage preservation, a collection of pre-Columbian Lucayan artifacts has been returned to the National Museum of The Bahamas. The items, which include intricate stone tools and a rare 'duho' (ceremonial stool), were previously held in a private collection in Europe for over half a century.
The repatriation ceremony highlighted the importance of international cooperation in combatting the illicit trade of cultural property. The artifacts are scheduled to go on permanent display as part of a new educational exhibit on indigenous Bahamian history.
